2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement. For DTM, supporting processes to monitor displacement means that our emergency, mobility tracking, and flow monitoring teams collect data on displaced individuals, returnees, sudden, or new displacements and cross-border movements. This video shows what it means in the context of Nigeria, where some 2 million internally displaced individuals have been identified.

Nimule is one of the busiest land borders between South Sudan and Uganda, with over 8,000 people a month passing through each month. Based on data collected at two Flow Monitoring Points, food scarcity is the main reason for movements in both direction.
