Boutis work

mmmm I did think at one time I would enjoy doing this and I have tried it - but it isn't for me. I much prefer working with stranded embroidery cotton in colours. Still I do enjoy seeing it so will keep the board going for the time being.

Exquisite French boutis quilted child's bonnet! "Boutis is the art of embroidering from the inside, a quilting technique that one finds especially in Provence and the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. Two fabric layers are stitched together w/ small, tight stitches creating traditional symbols & monograms. Within the lines of stitches forming a shape, one delicately inserts a tiny tuft of cotton, giving relief to the surface of the work." Blandine Jolivet
