Jodi Picoult. This book is haunting!
Books Movies, High School, Jodi Picoult, Amazing Book, Books Books Book, Favorite Books, Favorite Author, Picoult Book
A great read about how we come to make decisions, Nineteen Minutes centers around the story of a high school shooting, and is told, in classic Jodi Picoult style, from 5 different viewpoints using flashbacks and opinions about the present day
This is one of my favorite books by Jodi Picoult the other one is My Sisters Keeper, the book is WAY better than the movie.
This book is about a gun shooting that occured at a high school. Like all Jodi Picoult books there are a number of different characters whose viewpoints you are shown, featuring the shooter and a student who was friends with some of those killed during the shooting.
Mistery. Crime. The devastating aftermath of a school shooting. In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn, color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game. In nineteen minutes, you can bake scones or get a tooth filled by a dentist; you can fold laundry for a family of five....In nineteen minutes, you can stop the world, or you can just jump off it. In nineteen minutes, you can get revenge. http://www.amazon.com/Nineteen-Minutes-Jodi-Picoult/dp/0743496736
Nineteen Minutes - Jodi Picoult: Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens--until the day its complacency is shattered by a school shooting. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the case, should be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes--or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show--destroying the closest of friendships and families. Books
This was my first Jodi Picoult book and she quickly became a favorite author of mine.
Jodi Picoult. one of my favorite authors and such an amazing book
One of my favorite books from my favorite author, Jodi Picoult.
I want to post something everyday this year that I love, but it's already the 7th so I'm a little behind... I'll have to post a few things a day until I catch up! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All of my posts are in no particular order, I'll just post them as I think of them. The first thing I love is... Jodi Picoult Books. They're the best! I could sit down and read one of her books cover to cover. I've already finished eleven of her books. Right now I'm working on "Keeping Faith," but I keep picking right before I go to bed to read and I always fall asleep right after reading a page or two. I think I'll make it a goal to finish it by the end of the weekend... Mariah finds her husband with another woman for the second time in their marriage. He files for divorce and gives her full custody of their child, Faith, who develops an imaginary friend. When her mother takes her to see a therapist, she is told that her daughter may be seeing God. Faith receives a lot of media attention for different things that happen to her throughout the book. Amid these events, she receives attention from a teleathiest named Ian Fletcher, who also causes all sorts of problems. If you've never read a Jodi Picoult book, I suggest you start with "Nineteen Minutes." It's my favorite book of hers so far. It starts with a shooting in a small high school. After the shooting, the town's residents must not only seek justice in order to begin healing, but also come to terms with the role they played in the tragedy. Joise, the teenage daughter of the judge sitting on the case, could be the state's best witness, but she cannot remember what happened. I promise that you will not be able to put the book down. It's so emotionally charged and well written. I read it in Arizona over spring break last year and I don't think I put it down once. She does a really good job of developing all the characters and making you care about all of them! Another one of my favorites is "My Sister's Keepers", but don't compare it to the movie... it's completely different, and the book is a lot better. I haven't even seen it myself, but people told me about it and it's not the same. I always prefer the book over the movie anyways, so maybe I'm biased. My other favorites are "The Pact" and "Vanishing Acts." The only book I didn't care for was "Handle With Care." If you did like, let me know! Maybe I just need to reread it, but I really didn't like the ending. Although I do think that you should read it and decide for yourself! I've read every book except - House Rules - Wonder Woman - Perfect Match - Mercy - Harvesting the Heart - Songs of the Humpback Whale Which one should I read next? THREE CUPS OF TEA, by Greg Mortenson: An eye opening view of Afghanistan and a man's mission to promote peace by building schools.
Three Cups of Tea written by Greg Mortenson. A story that describes Mortenson's transition from a registered nurse and mountain-climber to a humanitarian committed to reducing poverty and elevating education for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan. For more inspirational novels, head to theculturetrip.com.
I rode next to Bhangoo, looking down past my feet through the Vietnam-era Alouette's bubble windshield. Two thousand feet below us a river twisted, hemmed in by rocky crags jutting out from both sides of the Hunza Valley. At eye level, we soared past hanging green glaciers, splintering under a tropical sun. (greg mortenson/david oliver relin, three cups of tea)
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson: Traces how the author, having been rescued and resuscitated by Himalayan villagers after a failed attempt to climb K2, worked to build schools that would particularly benefit the young girls who were forbidden an education by Taliban restrictions, an endeavor for which his life has been repeatedly threatened.
Three Cups of Tea - inspiring. Feeling a little conflicted now because of all the controversy, but nonetheless an uplifting story.

The Kite Runner - Childhood in war torn Afghanistan, novel about love, honor, guilt, fear and redemption. Amazing Book!
The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini): my favorite book int the Will-tear-your-heart-out-and-rip-it-into-1,000-pieces-but-put-you-back-together-again Department
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Moving and poignant tale of the ties that bind in a faraway land.
"The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini ~ One of my favorite books. Quite depressing but it keeps you on your toes & makes you want to read more.
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini - The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, whose closest friend is Hassan, his father's young Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of Afghanistan's monarchy through the Soviet invasion, the exodus of refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the rise of the Taliban regime.
Khaled Hosseini's novel, The Kite Runner, about Afghanistan pre-Soviet invasion is one of the most eye-opening and enlightening books I've ever read. The intense emotion and detail that is recounted by the young boy, Amir, about growing up in Kabul is shockingly remarkable. Admittedly, I didn't know much about Afghanistan's history before and after reading this book, I'll never look at Afghanistan in the stereotypical, western-world view again.
