Slovenia is known for its dramatic scenery and coastline. A decade ago it was thought dolphins in this area only occasionally visited the Adriatic Sea off Slovenia, but didn’t actually live there. Researchers who lead this expedition, however, proved the dolphins do in fact live there. Now they need your help to protect these waters as part of a Marine Protected Area to safeguard the entire marine ecosystem. Hop aboard on this beautiful journey Tracking Dolphins in the Adriatic.

On this Earthwatch Expedition, join a groundbreaking investigation into the dolphin population that lives in Slovenia’s coastal waters.

Did you know Melbourne is home to short-necked and long-necked turtles? Come out for the day and explore local wetlands and lakes to help determine the population status of our freshwater turtles. Urbanization has a big impact on turtles, and a healthy turtle population points to a healthy ecosystem. You’ll wade through Melbourne's freshwater lakes and creeks to capture turtles, assess their health, and review the condition of their habitat

Join an Earthwatch one-day team and help us uncover Melbourne’s freshwater turtle population.

The wet tropics of northern Queensland are the last remaining part of the rain forest that once dominated half of Australia. This beautiful landscape is home to species like cassowaries, parrots, pythons, possums, tree kangaroos, and other reptiles that live nowhere else in the world. During this Earthwatch expedition you and fellow citizen scientists will work with ecologists to study the effects of climate change, how it is altering the landscape and what it means for species in the area.

Join Earthwatch researchers in Australian rainforests where you’ll investigate the impact of climate change on the habitats and wildlife of this unique region.

Have you always wanted to see a dugong? Many dugongs call Moreton Bay home. But, they could be in trouble with Brisbane's growth. Join scientists and citizen scientists on an Earthwatch Expedition to help understand how Brisbane's urbanisation is affecting Moreton Bay and its inhabitants. You will snorkel alongside Dugongs and Dolphins and collect sediment, sea grass, and macro invertebrates to study the health of the bay. As a plus you also get to cruise around the warm waters on a sail…

Dugong is the only living representative of the once-diverse family Dugongidae; its closest modern relative, Steller's sea cow (Hydrodamalis gigas), was hunted to extinction in the century.

Scuba divers from around the world come to the Great Barrier Reef to explore its extraordinary diversity of animal and plant life. Over the past decades, however, disease has wiped out a significant area of the reef. This disease, called black band disease, is not fully understood. On this Earthwatch expedition you will be at the forefront of international research on coral reef disease, while aboard the Orpheus Island Research Station

Volunteer on this Earthwatch Expedition with Dr. David Bourne to dive Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to help scientists understand the threats facing this landmark site.

Weighing in at only a few grams, these insect eating Microbats are a vital part of our ecosystem. There are at least 15 species living around Melbourne, but little is known about these adorable creatures of the night. On this overnight expedition you will conduct trap and band Microbats and learn about their feeding habitats to establish a baseline to conserve their populations.

With Earthwatch, volunteer to join a dusk-till-dawn expedition and discover Melbourne’s tiniest resident: the microbat.

Great Otway National Park in Victoria, Australia is home to a high population of iconic koalas. Climate change has had a big impact on their habitat and in areas with a higher populations of koalas tree health is declining. On Conserving Koala Country you and will be studying koalas through hands-on research and learn about their habitat, while helping to develop a conservation solution for their future.

Join Earthwatch scientists in Australia’s Great Otway National Park to monitor the impact of climate change on the koala and its habitat.

Want a chance to dive with the world's largest rays? Join us with Project Manta to learn about manta rays, their behavior, and conservation needs. These gentle giants are classified as vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, but is not currently protected in Australian waters. Come experience the beautiful world of the manta ray first hand! In 2015 the project will be relocating to Western Australia!
