The Whitefish Point Light Station. The iron skeletal framework was designed to relieve stress due to very high winds. It is located on Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is home to The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and has many artifacts including the bell from the SS Edmund Fitzgerald which was recovered in 1995. This is the oldest light on Lake Superior having been in operation since 1849, though the present tower was built in 1861. Automation occurred in 1971.

We did a day trip from the Soo to Whitefish Point to visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum .
