Male or Female? Beginning with my tenth rat, I started adopting males exclusively. I love the males because they’re (in general) cuddlier and more responsive to developing a relationship with humans. The females frequently possess independent personalities. Unlike most males, they’re not as likely to want to sit on your lap and be petted. Instead, they’re quite adventurous and even mischievous.
Green Mush: From my personal experience, an essential part of a rat’s diet is Green Mush. Ever since I began feeding my rats Green Mush they’ve lived much longer lives. My first rat, a male, only lived to be 1 ¾ years. After I began feeding Green Mush to my pet rats, my males have now lived as long as 3 ¼ years. (My preference until recently has been for male rats exclusively. Keep in mind females will live even longer.)
