Tallest Tree in the World
Favorite Place, National Geographic, Creek Redwood, Redwood Forest
National Geographic sent renowned photographer Michael Nichols to spend a year in California's redwood forest. His mission was to do capture the majesty of Earth's tallest trees. At least 1,500 years old, this 300-foot giant in California's Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park has the most complex crown ever mapped.
Giant Redwood Forest- California, Have traveled here on our Goldwing motorcycle 3x, we never tire of these amazing beautiful trees!!!
Sequoia National Park, California "The first ever seamless photograph of an entire redwood tree. Photographer Michael Nichols and National Geographic built a robotized rig with three cameras to capture this enormous 1,600 year old redwood tree in California. The final composite is stitched together from 84 photos." photo: Michael Nichols
The Majestic Redwood-Prairie Creek Redwood State Park, California This amazing 83 photo composite of a 300 foot tall, 1500 year old redwood was shot by Nick Nichols for National Geographic. He used a 3 camera, robotic dolly on a gyroscope.

National Geographic ~ At least 1,500 years old, a 300-foot titan in California's Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park has the most complex crown scientists have mapped. Michael Nichols assembled a team to make a photograph that had never before been attempted: "...a seamless image of an entire redwood tree, from top to bottom." This photo is a mosaic composed of 84 images!
Giant Redwood -- At least 1,500 years old, 300-feet tall, in California's Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. An 83-photo composite
Giant Redwood Forest- California -One of my most favorite places on earth.
"the redwoods, once seen, leave a mark or create a vision that stays with you always. no one has ever successfully painted or photographed a redwood tree. the feeling they produce is not transferable. from them comes silence and awe. it’s not only their unbelievable stature, nor the color which seems to shift and vary under your eyes. no, they are not like any trees we know, they are ambassadors from another time." so wrote john steinbeck. but it was photographer michael nichols’ ambition to attempt such a photograph, an ambition finally made feasible given today’s technology and equipment. so over a period of nineteen days, nichols took 84 separate photographs, each of which needed over an hour to complete, to capture this 1500 year old, 300 feet tall giant redwood in california’s prairie creek redwoods state park. the resultant stitched image stands 18 meters tall (click to see it displayed). coast redwoods house a complex ecosystem, with dense mats of soil (up to three feet thick) on the tree’s limbs and trunk folds which support ferns, confiers and berry bushes. this particular redwood has the most complex crown ever mapped by scientists. but as one of the most valuable timber species in the lumber industry, 90 to 98% of old growth redwood forest has now been felled. The growing population of the world, now estimated to be over 7 billion, marks a global milestone and presents obvious challenges for the planet. There are extremely densely populated cities and sparsely populated countries. China is the most populous country with India following closely behind. This post brings together some disparate illustrations of our world as it grows, including scenes from Mong Kok district in Hong Kong, which has the highest population density in the world, with 130,000 per one square kilometer. In Mongolia, the world's least densely populated country, 2.7 million people are spread across an area three times the size of France. Then there's Out Skerries, a tiny outcropping of rocks off the east coast of Scotland where the population is just 65. And doing what he can to contribute to that 7 billion global milestone is Ziona, the head of a religious sect called "Chana."  He has 39 wives, 94 children, and 33 grandchildren. The world is an interesting place. -- Paula NelsonÂ

Judgment Day (by Extra Medium)
Landscape photography inspiration from John Mueller
Last year while out photographing blooming flowers in Central California I was listening to a “Christian” radio station where this epicly old man was preaching about how he personally has calculated the return of Christ via the Rapture and subsequent Judgment Day for this coming Saturday, May 21st sometime in the late evening. I turned up the volume so I could hear the 88yo Camping discuss his calculation and how he was absolutely certain that the following May the world will experience an earthquake so large it will divide the earth and split wide open, and then be completely destroyed by Oct. 21st, just before my birthday! (figures) Being relatively new to the faith at that point it was interesting to not only listen to his perspective, but to listen to the callers call in and agree with him. All I know is that I have a wedding to shoot on Sunday and the bride and groom are going to be pissed if I can’t finish shooting and editing their wedding photos because Jesus came back, judged me and I was sent directly to Hell. By the way, if we all wake up on Sunday, you’re welcome to a BBQ at my house.
