Noooooooo!: letter writing should emphasize constructing meaning and crafting a letter that will convey meaning to the reader, not cranking out a letter that just fits a template. Writing workshop is not worksheets.

Visual Rubric: Having 4 samples for students to compare their work to will help make them more accountable. Teacher is able to say, “Which sample does your writing most look like and why?” and ALL students can verbally respond to that.
Writing rubric with writing samples for writing at each level. Not not all kids are ready to use them effectively. This one is visual so students will easily be able to effectively analyze, “which sample does my writing most look like and why?”
Visual writing rubric anchor chart. Love the visual comparison of the drawings as the details are added.
Rubrics are a developmental thing and not all kids are ready to use them effectively in 3rd grade. I feel that having 4 samples to compare their work to will make them much more accountable. It’s visual. I will be able to say, “which sample does your writing most look like and why?” and ALL students can verbally respond to that. I don’t feel the same is true for a text-only rubric.
Scoring examples so students have a visual rubric too...could alter to fit older grades/middle schoolers

After teaching & practicing writing with students, I have them write a paragraph on their own. On the day I return the graded paragraph, they all get to make a sub with only the parts of the paragraph they have in their graded work....no conclusion, no bottom bun :-) only one supporting sentence, only one condiment. It is a ton of fun to watch the kids make and eat their subs.

Great visual of what students can do at a writing center... will have to adjust for older students but still a great place to start!
Great visual of what students can do at a writing center. Students choose which type of writing they want to practice: letter, recipe, list, note, book, story, card, poem, or notes. These examples are a great visual for children to identify what each type of writing consists of.
This is a really neat writing idea. I believe that this will be useful for elementary students in the second and third grade. This technique tells and displays how to write a letter, note, etc. This is an advantage to students because they can just see what they need to know without having to ask the teacher how to do a certain writing assignment. One disadvantage is the time that it will take to hand write/draw these illustrations. I would suggest printing illustrations from the Internet.
Lots of ideas (pictures) from a K-2 teacher that teaches Writing in her classroom!
