Phonemic Awareness - Word Stretchercisers JK/SK - Grade 1 Have students pull a picture card from the bowl and stretch the word out to hear its individual sounds. Use manipulatives that stretch (like a slinky) to support students stretching words out and segmenting their sounds. Pairing the oral segmenting with a motion like stretching can help students make sure they are not missing any sounds in the word. Offer letters in case students want to try to find the letters for each sound.
Use this little FREEBIE as a whole group phoneme substitution activity. Students could also use this with partners. Includes 20 cards, substituting beginning, middle, and end phonemes in words. I value and appreciate your feedback on this FREE ITEM! Interested in more ideas, freebies, and fun?
