INTRO TO MULTIPLICATION (2nd grade) -- kids choose from objects like marbles, cotton balls, jingle bells, jewels, beans, macaroni, foam shapes, etc. Then, they write a story problem to go with their handprints/what they were holding.
I would use this when first introducing multiplication. It is important for students to get a visual of what multiplication is and not just memorizing multiplication tables. It would be fun to use this model with m's or some type of food that they could eat at the end!
money game - Hot glue some coins to about 20 popsicle sticks. Write "Kaboom" on about 5 sticks. Kids play in groups of 2-4. When it's your turn, you pull out a stick. You add the coin values and tell the amount. If your partner or group members agree with you, you get to keep the stick. If you pull a Kaboom stick you have to put all of your sticks back in the cup.
