The Scream – Edvard Munch. It's a series of expressionist paintings and prints by the Norwegian artist, showing an agonized figure against a blood red sky. He created several versions of The Scream in various media. The one shown was painted in 1893 and is on display in The National Gallery of Norway. It was stolen in 1994 in a high-profile art theft and recovered several months later. In 2004 another version of The Scream was stolen from the Munch Museum, and recovered in 2006.

The original Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE painting ever created. LOVE it!!!
The Starry Night | Vincent van Gogh, 1889 - One of the most famous, replicated and sought after images in modern culture. It depicts the view from his room of the northern night sky at the sanatorium in Saint Remy. The swirling clouds, bright crescent moon and luminescent stars keep the eyes wandering over the painting. This masterpiece has been kept at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City as part of their permanent collection since 1941.

Pablo Picasso. Leaning Harlequin. 1901. Oil on canvas. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, USA
Seated Harlequin Pablo Picasso (Spanish, Malaga 1881–1973 Mougins, France) After experimenting with a variety of styles in the year following his arrival in Paris, Picasso developed a style properly his own in autumn 1901. He painted six canvases, all about the same size, with either a single figure or a couple seated at a café table, that together constitute one of the greatest achievements the twenty-year-old artist had yet accomplished.
Study the artwork of a modern artist whose very name has come to mean a masterpiece of art-- "a Picasso." If your children have been studying more traditional artists, the works of Picasso may be a most welcome change of style. Dabble into the artistic schools of Cubism and Collage as you reproduce your own Picasso-styled art. It's fun! I'm going to walk you through a Picasso artist study: share what we did and also share some additional ideas and resources. Pick and choose what works for you.

Henri Matisse - Ballerina, 1927 -- In 1920 Matisse became acquainted with 19-year-old Henriette Darricarrère, who became his model for the next seven years. The girl was a ballet dancer at the cinematic Studios de la Victorine.
Henri Matisse, Ballerina, circa 1927 “In 1920, Matisse met a nineteen-year-old girl who for more than seven years would be his model and inform the spirit of many works of his Nice period. Ballerina is remarkable for its simplicity of colour scheme and compositional balance. The background is almost abstract: four horizontal bands of different colour accentuating the figure.”
Ballerina (1927). Henri Matisse (French, Fauvism, 1869-1954). Oil on canvas. Hermitage. In 1920, Matisse met a 19-year old Henriette Darricarrère who was studying ballet and would model in his Nice period. Matisse was no doubt drawn not only by her looks, her well-sculpted, strong form, but also by her artistry: she could easily transform herself into an odalisque, a Spanish lady, a violinist, or a pianist, as well as a dancer. Ballerina is remarkable for its simplicity of colour scheme and compositional balance.

Fauvism - Henri Matisse - Green Stripe (Madame Matisse), 1905. Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Copenhagen. Matisse painted this unusual portrait of his wife in 1905. The green stripe down the center of Amélie Matisse's face acts as an artificial shadow line and divides the face in the conventional portraiture style, with a light and a dark side, Matisse divides the face chromatically, with a cool and warm side.
