The Grand Family 1963. René Magritte: the silhouette of a bird resembling a dove with its body filled with clouds has been used by Magritte in several paintings. This was painted a few years before the artist’s death and so this serene and surreal oil painting represents his most developed works of art. Doves symbolize love, peace and tranquility – They also symbolize hope.
“If you doubt your ability to make a life-altering decision, to take on a daring aspiration, or to fend for yourself after many years, consider this: Surely, if a bird with healthy wings is locked in a cage long enough, she will doubt her ability to fly.” -Sandra King
The Dove with the Olive Branch as a Symbol of Peace A dove with olive leaves was the emblem on North Carolina's £2 note of 1771 (above left). The accompanying motto meant: "Peace restored." A dove was also on Georgia's $40 note of 1778 along with a hand holding a dagger. The motto meant: "Either war or peace, prepared for both."
