Confessions of a Fashionista : Angela Clarke | The beginning reminds me of Legally Blonde, to the letter. Further in, it becomes an ok story about someone working in fashion as a producer. Parts of the story are pointless, and the surrounding plot lines are beyond expected, they're borderline modern fairy tale. It could do with some good editing.
Proust Was a Neuroscientist - Jonah Lehrer | By far the most interesting book I have read all year! Well, it's got competition, but you'll understand what I mean once you read the chapter about Auguste Escoffier, how tastebuds need to earn new flavours, and hearing new sounds can make us violent. Brilliant book. And creating a parallel for each neuroscientific discovery to an artist / writer / chef / composer, works incredibly well for remembering the lessons!
ΣΤΗ ΣΚΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΑΥΓΕΡΙΝΟΥ - ΣΟΦΙΑ ΒΟΪΚΟΥ | A book about women who live in the shadows of great men. Specifically, the torrid affair between Greek sculptos Aggelos Aygerinos and Tereza Volani. Fictional story (mostly) inspired by Auguste Rodin and Camille Claudel. Couldn't drop the book. Bought Monday night, finished Wednesday morning.
Outliers: The Story of Success eBook: Malcolm Gladwell | An excellent book about how circumstances can make or break a life, and how we all deserve equal chances but are never given them. If you don't have a day to spare (it's a short book), get the coles notes. The concepts are the important bits, and those would be easy to summarise. Hopefully someone's done it.
Le sac (Essais et documents) (French Edition) - Jean-Claude Kaufmann | An excellent collection and re-amalgamation of stories from women about their handbags, their relationships with them, their tips, their tricks, their habits. If you've ever thought of designing handbags, this will give you some excellent insights about why women buy handbags, and how we use them.
Sleeping Arrangements eBook: Madeleine Wickham, Sophie Kinsella | Read it in less than 3 days on my commute. I get completely immersed with her style, feel for the characters, and love the story and circumstances she finds. This one was about life changes and daring to "jump off a cliff". Timely. (June 2013)
