Ireland - Dublin - the Brazen Head is the oldest pub. Pub crawl!!!
he Brazen Head is officially Ireland's oldest pub, dating back to 1198. While it is unclear how much of the original 11th century coach house is still intact, there is a palpable sense of history within these timeworn walls. If you are looking for the true Irish pub experience then the Brazen Head Pub should be your first port of call.

Leprechaun. A type of fairy in Irish folklore, usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief. Leprechauns have been linked to the Tuatha Dé Danann of Irish mythology. The Leprechauns spend all their time busily making shoes, and store away all their coins in a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If ever captured by a human, the Leprechaun has the magical power to grant three wishes in exchange for their release.

Blackrock Castle in Cork city, Ireland Blackrock Castle formerly Mahon Castle, is a 16th century castle located in Cork city, Ireland. In the late 16th century, the citizens of Cork appealed to Queen Elizabeth I to construct a fort at Blackrock to "repel pirates and other invaders". In or around 1600, a round tower was constructed to safeguard against pirates "carrying away" vessels entering the harbour.

This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House. Two centuries later, the trees remain a magnificent sight and have become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland.

Beautiful photo. Another pinner said: "One of the most beautiful roads I’ve ever seen is this country lane in Northern Ireland - named locally as The Dark Hedges. These trees are 300 years old and form an arch like tunnel that run the length of the Bregagh road near Armoy in County Antrim. They really do look like something straight out of a fairytale. To view this place in the morning is amazing, you can catch a good light or eerie mist.
The Dark Hedges, Bregagh Road, SW of Armoy, Co. Antrim. This beautiful avenue of beech trees was planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. It was intended as a compelling landscape feature to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House. But travellers beware: The lane is reputedly haunted by a spectral Grey Lady who wanders up and down this enchanted hollow.
The Dark Hedges, Antrim, Ireland. A unique stretch of the Bregagh Road near Armoy, County Antrim that has been re-named locally as The Dark Hedges. Over the past 300 years or so the Beech trees guarding the lane have reached up and across to each other, becoming heavily intertwined to create a remarkable sight.

Tree tunnel Northern Ireland: The Dark Hedges is a beech alley planted in County Antrim in the eighteenth century. The ancient gnarly trees form a natural arched tunnel which is now one of the most famous local landmarks. It would be really cool if in the new Alice in wonderland they had used this as the rabbit hole

Planet Earth Daily Photo - planetearthdailyphoto.blogspot.com/2008/06/old-road.html The old road that leads to a ancient stone circle, a beautiful & magical place, Ballynoe, Co.Down, Ireland. Ballynoe Stone Circle in Co. Down A very large circle of over 50 stones up to 1.8 metres high (though many smaller) encloses a space about 35 metres across. It was built as a counterpart to the circle at Swinside in Cumbria. In the E half of the circle is a long low mound which contained large kists at the E and W ends. This mound obliterated two shortlived cairns built after the circle was constructed, in what Aubrey Burl describes as "prehistoric bigotry and vandalism [which] ruined this magnificent monument. " Three pairs of stones stand outside the circle at varying distances, the nearest pair at the W side forming a kind of entrance 2.1 metres wide. Many of the stones in this circle were originally shoulder to shoulder, as at Lough Gur, at Swinside in Cumbria and La Menec in Brittany. A portalled entrance is aligned on the setting sun half-way between midwinter and midsummer (around March 21st), and the setting sun at winter solstice seems to slide down between the Mountains of Mourne which form a fine backdrop to the circle. Irish dancing is practiced throughout Ireland today as it has been for centuries, and young dancers compete in local and regional contests with the hope of getting to the national championships held each May in Dublin. While Michael Flatley and his global tour of Riverdance brought Irish dancing fame and recognition far beyond its native shores, still, one of the best ways to experience a ceili is in Ireland

Handfasting; An Ancient Celtic Wedding Tradition - Hence "Tying the Knot"
"Love this idea" Handfasting - Irish Wedding Tradition Each partner holds the hands of the other, right hand to right hand, left hand to left, their wrists crossed. The ribbon is wound around the wrists over the top of one and under and around the other, creating the infinity symbol. The practice gave way to the expression “tying the knot”. I need to find my clan tartan though..
Hand fasting a nautical rope and ribbon would be darling. A handfasting ceremony is an ancient marriage ritual made popular in Ireland and Scottland during the Early Christian period. This symbolic lashing together of the couple's hands is the origin of the familiar expression, "tying the knot". Interesting and inexpensive alternative to a unity candle.

St. Brigid's Cross Legend says this cross was woven by the patron saint of Ireland to explain the Passion. Its heritage extends to the Neolithic Age when it symbolized the four seasons. It is now hung over Irish doorways to protect home and hearth. It is also related to the symbol of the "turning wheel" which symbolized the movement of the sun and is a design seen on Celtic crosses.
