Red rose '49 Parallel'. Hardy to zone 2b. It is resistant to black spot (a fungus that defoliates some plants by early summer); is a good repeat bloomer; has shiny green foliage; and its flower is a deep, patriotic red.
The head, with leading edge tapering sharply from a rounded swelling base, it’s formed with a ridge on both sides running parallel with the sharpened back-edge. The latter is characteristically blunt and recesses towards the base. It is struck with a triangular group of three deeply recessed pellets on one side, rectangular socket extending to form a pair of straps. The socket is fitted with a pair of threaded moulded pyramidal spikes.
