Adam-12 hit the air in September of 1968 and ran till August of 1975 on the NBC network. The show was produced by Dragnet’s Jack Webb’s Mark VII Limited, which was also responsible for the firefighter show Emergency. In fact, the show’s lead Officers, Reed and Malloy, originally appeared on Dragnet, so it was sort of a spin-off. Episodes were based on true life cases and names were, of course, changed to protect the innocent.
Adam-12 was a realistic style police drama following the lives of two officers of the Los Angeles Police Department, veteran Police Officer III (P-3) Pete Malloy and his rookie partner, probationary Police Officer I (P-1) Jim Reed. Each episode of the series covered a variety of incidents that the officers encountered during a shift, from the tragic to the trivial.[4
