Bred to hunt bear and guard royalty, even the gentlest Akita should be treated as carefully as a 100lb weapon. Keep the safety on! Train her thoroughly and keep her leashed or in your house or fenced yard. If everyone did this, breed restrictions wouldn't be considered.

American Akita Inu - The Akita is a large spitz breed of dog originating from the mountainous northern regions of Japan. There are now two separate strains: American, a/k/a "Akita" or "American Akita"; and Japanese, aka "Akita Inu" or "Japanese Akita". The American strain comes in all dog colors; however, the Japanese strain comes in selected colors only, with all other colors considered atypical of the breed. - #dog #akita #japan #American #inu #Japanese #spitz

Although known to be a quiet dog the Akita has strong guarding instincts and will sound the alarm if an intruder breaks into their house. Akita temperament can range from calm to bouncy and aggressive, so the breed should always be supervised around small children and other animals. Akitas like to be "pack leader," so obedience training is also necessary for a harmonious household. The breed will groom itself like a cat, but daily brushing is still necessary, as is daily exercise.
