I may have to learn to alter since I have had to buy some of my clothing a little big and the shape is not flattering with the looseness and extra room. If I can find a tailor, Ill try with a pair of old pants and see how I do.

Alteration: My new favorite way to keep original hem on jeans

How to hem your jeans and keep the original hem! It will work with flares. The only difference is that you need to do a small reinforced stitch to resize the hem to the width of the pants where you'll hem. Sofie Love has a blog that demonstrates this.
