Orangutans fight for their survival on a protected island
Go Borneo! We are the stewards of this Garden of Eden ~ This is one of only four orangutan sanctuaries in the world, the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre (SORC). Orphaned, and injured orangutans are brought to Sepilok to be rehabilitated to return to forest life, and so far the centre has handled about 100, although only about 20 still return regularly.
The Margay (Leopardus wiedii) is a spotted cat native to Middle and South America. Named for Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied, it is a solitary and nocturnal animal that prefers remote sections of the rainforest. Although it was once believed to be vulnerable to extinction, the IUCN now lists it as "Near Threatened". It roams the rainforests from Mexico to Argentina.
