The American Bald Eagle(Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is both the national bird and animal of the United States of America. The bald eagle appears on its seal. In the late 20th century it was on the brink of extinction in the U.S. Populations have since recovered and the species was removed from the U.S. government's List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife in the Lower 48 States on June 28, 2007.
This is a Bald Eagle. It is America's National bird. They are endangered mostly because of the Pesticide DDT. These birds used to eat the roots that were contaminated by the pesticide and their nesting and feeding sites were spreaded.
