Kerak - a large crusader castle located in Jordan, once stronghold of Raynald of Châtillon built in 1142. Muslims had sought to take Kerak many times, finally in 1187 they stretched its defenses to breaking point. At one point, 9 catapults were bombarding the walls and inhabitants within. Word reached King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem who, although suffering from leprosy and had to be carried on a stretcher, personally led the army of knights forcing Saladin to lift the siege.

This is Kerak Castle in southern Jordan. Built in 1132 AD, by Baldwin I, Crusader King of Jerusalem. The castle is mentioned in an Orlando Bloom movie - I forget the name. The castle was eventually captured by Saladin in 1188 AD.
