Bara brith (literally “mottled bread”) is sometimes made with yeast but Mary’s family recipe omits it, giving a wonderfully sticky texture. It is best spread with plenty of butter. (via BBC Food)

Bara Brith is a lovely Welsh tea time fruit cake loved throughout Wales and the rest of the United Kingdom and so easy to make.


Traditional Welsh bara brith, which translates to ‘speckled bread’ and is a rich fruit loaf made with tea. Produced all over Wales, the spiced fruit loaf is delicious when spread with salted Welsh butter.
