Barley beer is a form of alcoholic beverage, made in central Europe at least as long ago as the Early Iron Age, about 600 BC. The earliest fermented drinks have been found in China at the Neolithic Jiahu site, ca. 7000-5800 BC. The earliest evidence of brewing beer from fermented barley and wheat is known from the Mediterranean Bronze Age of Mesopotamia (ca. 4000 BC); and China's first evidence of barley beer follows that by 600-1,000 years.
