'Acanthus' Embroidered Bed Cover, c.1890. Perhaps made by May Morris (William Morris' daughter) who began working for Morris & Co in 1885. May's workbooks record many requests for this design. Stored in darkness for a century, it has been well preserved. Although covering the beds during the day, bed covers were folded away at night & the family slept under 'whitework' covers. In 1877 this cover could have cost £ 100. #William_Morris #Morris_and_Co #embroidery #May_Morris
