The Tonglen meditation is a Tibetan Buddhist practice for overcoming the fear of suffering and for dissolving the tightness of our heart. Primarily it is a method for awakening the compassion that is inherent in all of us.
Few things can challenge us and push our buttons more than relationships, but they are also a tremendous source of joy and fulfillment in life. A Buddhist practice can help you to make all of your relationships the very best they can be.
If your everyday practice is to open to all your emotions, to all the people you meet, to all the situations you encounter, without closing down, trusting that you can do that — then that will take you as far as you can go.
