The Katikies Hotel on the beautiful island of Santorini sits atop a cliff overlooking the Santorini caldera basin, offering heart stopping views of the Aegean Sea. Even if it rains, we’d still be in awe of the cave pools and the immaculate white rooms with their elegant touches. With only 27 rooms and suites, it’s clear the goal is serenity, not mass occupancy.
This fabulous and magnificent Aescher Hotel is located near Wildkirchli and just below the Ebenalp cliff. Ebenalp is the northernmost peak of the Appenzell Alps of Switzerland. Wildkirchli is a combination of three caves in the Alpstein massif of Appenzell. This marvelous mountain guest-house and hotel was built during 19th century.
Here’s another triangulated outcrop: Technische Universität Dresden students Philip Modest Schambelan and Anton Fromm have designed a hotel for mountain bikers for the edge of a cliff in Pregasina, Italy
An abandoned gold mine up the street for our hotel in Ouray, CO. It's halfway up a steep cliff on a high mountain. Amazing to wonder how they go up there. I can only guess donkeys had a rough life back then. There are no roads up to this pace (that I know of). "Abandoned Mine" Caption and Photo by Melany S. via Flickr
