David Norman Dinkins (born July 10, 1927) is a former politician and Mayor of New York City from 1990 to 1993. He was the first and is, to date, the only African American to hold that office.


David Norman Dinkins is the first and to date, the only African American person to hold the position of mayor of New York, 1990-1993. He graduated magna cum laude from Howard University with a degree in mathematics. He later graduated from Brooklyn Law School.
