George Gently (2007) Scotland Yard inspector George Gently (Martin Shaw) is a man who does things by his own book -- with the assistance of driven young detective John Bacchus (Lee Ingelby) -- in this BBC detective series set in the 1960s. On the eve of his retirement, Gently decides to pursue one more murder case, suspecting that it's the handiwork of a gangster who's already gotten away with the murder of Gently's own wife.
