The West End's beautiful Sylvia Hotel was built in 1912 for Mr. Goldstein, who had a daughter named Sylvia. In 1954 the Sylvia opened the city's first cocktail bar. Until 1958, it was the West End's tallest building. Then, in 1975, it was designated a heritage building by the City. It's now best known for its stunning views of English Bay and for the Virginia Creeper that now completely covers one side of the building.
