14" white and black variations of the Patsy doll, United States, 1946, by Effanbee Doll Co. While earlier black Patsy dolls (called "Patsy-Joan" in Effanbee literature) were simply brown-painted variations of the white doll's molding, this year's version was a re-designed model with details of curly hair atop the doll's cherubic head, reflecting a more accurate understanding of the characteristics of actual black children.
