While the commercial #drone industry may have found some cheer in the FAA’s recently relaxed regulations – the requirement that the operator have a pilot’s license has been dropped — they are still too restrictive. The operator must keep the drone in sight at all times and nighttime flights still aren’t allowed, for example. But technology can easily address many of the FAA’s safety concerns, argues Gretchen West in Foreign Affairs.
