This is a 7 page webquest that goes along with the free Scholastic Ellis Island Website.I use it with my gifted and talented second graders, but it is also appropriate for grades 3, 4 and 5.The questions on the webquest have students exam photographs, text, captions and maps on the Scholastic website!I have used it as a whole group activity as we explore the website together on the SMARTboard and as an individual activity.
According to Dr. Albert Ellis and REBT, an idea is irrational if: It distorts reality. It is illogical. It prevents you from reaching your goals. It leads to unhealthy emotions. It leads to self-defeating behavior. During his first years of practicing REBT, Dr. Ellis saw that practically all of his clients held variations of a dozen or so irrational beliefs. Here is a list of the most common ones
This sheet guides students through an interactive tour of Ellis Island. It helps students visualize and learn about the experience of immigrants as they passed through the various stations. The webquest is easy to grade and very engaging!
