Conifers. This would actually be a good idea for our front yard, low maintenance and still bird friendly

I like the large evergreens with the graceful grasses in front. The yellow shrubs in front add to the color combination.

Purple Diamond Loropetalum is a great evergreen low growing shrub. It is different than the most common loropetalums because of its low growth habit and redder color. It also is covered in red flowers in spring.

Dwarf Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana'). A superb selection that retains a neat, dense mound with little care. Enjoy as a single specimen or group as a filler. Fine-textured foliage breaks up the bold effects of large-leaved plants. Foliage becomes rusty red in winter. Evergreen. Slowly forms a dense dome 2 to 3 ft. tall, slightly wider; 4 to 8 ft. tall with age.

Lime Glow Juniper is a low growing evergreen shrub with soft feathery textured foliage that is bright chartreuse yellow when new, fading to a slightly darker lime green when mature. Works great as a groundcover, or for colorful accents and borders.

Use Evergreens to Make an Impact

Accentuate Fall Color - One sure way to highlight the fall colors in your yard is to pair them with evergreens. Engelmann spruce (Picea engelmannii), Korean fire (Abies koreana 'Horstmann Silberlocke'), and dwarf blue spruce (Picea pungens 'Corbet'), for example, looks smashing against bold reds and oranges. And bright yellows practically sing next to a dark green background. BHG

Types of Evergreen Trees

Wichita Blue Juniper gets 10-15' tall & 4-6' wide. This tree stays relatively narrow & pyramidal. The botanical name is Juniperus scopulorum & is also known as Rocky Mountain Juniper or Colorado Redcedar. There are other similar cultivars such as the following: •Skyrocket - One of the most narrow. •Moonglow - silver blue foliage and very broad •Medora - nice blue-green foliage but a slower grower
