At Spa, despite breaking the track record in qualifying (faster than the previous year's F1 speed), heavy rain slowed the 2F. Slick conditions offset the Chaparral's horsepower edge, and having to replace a dead battery cost more time. Phil Hill at the wheel of the Chaparral 2F during the pace lap for the 1967 Daytona 24 Hours. Alongside the 2F and behind the Ford Galaxy pace car is the Dan Gurney Ford GT-40. Gurney took the pole on a set of F1 qualifying tires. The 2F was unable to to get a faster lap due to fuel feed issues not resolved until too late for late get a better time.
