There are two flags associated with Scotland. The national flag is the white St Andrew's cross (the saltire) on a blue background. Technically, the lion rampant is the flag of the sovereign - but these days it is used by anyone.
The Royal Standard of Scotland, also known as the Lion Rampant of Scotland. Used historically by the King of Scots, the Royal Standard differs from Scotland's national flag, the Saltire, in that its correct use is legally restricted to only a few Great Officers of State who officially represent the Sovereign in Scotland.
