The U. S. Cavalry Museum is located in Fort Riley's historic main post district. Originally constructed in 1855 for use as a hospital, the building was remodeled and became headquarters to the Cavalry and Light Artillery School in 1890.
Fort Riley is an active Army Post located in northeast Kansas. Built in 1853 it served as a Cavalry post and the famous 'Buffalo Soldiers' were stationed there along with Gen. George Custer. The post was home to the famed 'Big Red One" from 1955-1996
