Baron von Steuben - He was a Prussian who came to fight for the Americans. He was a major general in the Continental Army and is the person who taught the army drills and tactics that helped them win the war. He was with George Washington at Valley Forge, where they worked with the troops to make them better. He was also Washington's chief of staff in the latter part of the war.

Baron von Steuben was a Prussian officer who was recruited by Franklin to join the Continental army in 1777. He spent the winter at Valley Forge training Washington’s army and led them at the battle of Monmouth. The training in bayonet usage proved pivotal in the Stony Point battle. His work was indispensible to Washington’s effort, earning Von Steuben the position of Inspector General.
