Generalleutnant Werner Ranck (25 October 1904 - 07 December 1989), commander 121. Infanterie Division, 218. Infanterie Division. Knight's Cross on 02 March 1945 as GM and commander 121. ID. Ranck surrendered to the Soviet forces in May 1945 in the Courland Pocket. Convicted as a war criminal in the Soviet Union, he was held until 1955.

Claus von Staufenberg was a Nazi army officer who attempted to kill Hitler with a bomb in 1944. He felt that this actions were justified under natural law in an efforts to save millions of lives from Hitler. He knew that he was committing an act of high treason. The bombing attempt failed when Hitler was protected from the blast by the top of the conference table under which the bomb had been placed. Staufenberg was executed shortly thereafter.
