Hoosier cabinets, 1898-1940, were compact, free-standing baking centers with a pull-out porcelain counter, a large tilt-out flour bin with built-in sifter, sugar bin, salt box, spice jars, a tin lined bread drawer, canisters, and utensils drawers. Some had a rack for pots and pans and racks on the insides of the top cabinet doors to display measurement charts or recipe cards. Most had a roll-down tambour door to hide away clutter. Most were made of oak. Some had legs, some were on wheels.
