I used to braid my horses manes and tails. I'd put ribbons in the mare's and the straw/bale strings on the geldings - and feathers in both. I think I loved grooming my horses as much as I loved riding them. I even enjoyed mucking out their stables and putting fresh sawdust down for them to sleep on... nothing smells better than a clean barn and stable ;-)
Did you know? Back in the day, equestrians often didn't have time to greet and speak with all the other riders before a foxhunt... so they put ribbons in their horses' tails to communicate what otherwise couldn't be communicated while racing over the fields.
