Hurricane Floyd - 1999 (NOAA) Was in Charleston had to evacuate. Last car to Columbia took 5 hours to drive 100 miles. Just in time for flight. Took last rental car from airport. Others who started out later took 13 hours to get to Columbia. Were expecting Category 5 to hit Charleston. Glad they were wrong.
