Glendalough, County Wicklow, is home to one of the most important monastic sites in the country. The early Christian monastic settlement was founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century and it eventually grew into a monastic city. The lakes and walking trails surrounding the monastic site are stunning and massively popular among the Irish and visitors. Most of the buildings that survive today date from the 10th to the 12th centuries.
