John Marcellus Huston (1906–1987), was an American film director, screenwriter and actor. He wrote the screenplays for most of the 37 feature films he directed, many of which are today considered classics: The Maltese Falcon, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Key Largo, The Asphalt Jungle, The African Queen, Moulin Rouge, The Misfits, and The Man Who Would Be King. During his 46-year career, Huston received 15 Oscar nominations, and won twice.

During the 21st Academy Awards presented on March 24, 1949, Walter and John Huston became the first father/son duo to win academy awards. Walter Huston won the best supporting actor award while his son, John Huston, received an Oscar for directing. They both won for their work in "The Treasure of Sierra Madre."
