John Jay Person

John Trumbull (self-portrait) (1756-1843) was an American artist during the period of the Revolutionary War. He was the son of Jonathan Trumbull, Governor of Connecticut from 1769 to 1784. A soldier in the Revolutionary War, John Trumbull was second personal aide to General Washington. In 1780, he went to London where he studied under Benjamin West and painted his first two battle scenes.
