Jones Beach State Park (of NY) is located in southern Nassau County, in the hamlet of Wantagh, on Jones Beach Island. The park is 6.5 miles (10.5 km) in length. It is the most popular and heavily visited beach on the East Coast, with an estimated six million visitors per year. The park opened to the public on August 4, 1929. Many of its buildings and facilities feature Art Deco architecture. Unusually for the time, no carnival-style amusements were allowed in the park area.
Jones Beach,Long Island,NY - Tower Lighthouse. I have fond memories of Jones Beach from my childhood, growing up in Bay Shore. The smell of petunias always brings it back for me because of the masses of them that grew there. --Meggie
