Josephine Marcus Earp (1861-1944) was an American part-time actress, dancer, and prostitute who was best known as the wife of the famed Old West lawman and gambler Wyatt Earp. Known as "Sadie" to the public in 1881, she met Wyatt in the frontier boom town Tombstone, Arizona Territory when she was living with Cochise County Sheriff Johnny Behan. She became Earp's common law wife for 48 years. She died in Los Angeles in 1944.
John Harris Behan (October 23, 1844 – June 7, 1912) was from April, 1881 to November, 1882 sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona Territory. Behan was sheriff during the events leading up to the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. He testified at length after the shooting in support of the Cowboy's position that the Earps had precipitated the shootout and murdered three Cowboys. He had a relationship with Josephine Marcus for an uncertain period of time until she left him for Wyatt Earp.
