Julie Andrews played the original Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady on Broadway. When Jack Warner was making the film adaptation, Julie was passed over for the role in favor of Audrey Hepburn, which made her available to accept Walt Disney's invitation to be Mary Poppins. Ironically, Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn squared off at the 22nd Annual Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for their performances in Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady, respectively. Julie had the last laugh :)
Mary Poppins - Julie Andrews won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Mary Poppins and the film also won Oscars for Best Film Editing, Original Music Score, Best Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and Best Visual Effects, and received a total of 13 nominations.
