Samuel L. Kountz, MD,(October 30, 1930 - December 23, 1981) was an African-American kidney transplantation surgeon. He performed the first successful kidney transplant between humans who were not identical twins. In 1954, he became the first black student admitted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He was founder of the Downstate Transplant Program.
