First-Grade Phonics Games to Play in the Classroom

How to Teach Phonics in a Fun Way: put up a letter (or later on a combination of letters (sh, ch, fr, etc.) and focus on that letter or combination for the day / trying to be aware of it whenever it comes up during the day - looking for ways to make it come up

Name activities: Cute "Spill & Spell" name game, made from colorful Popsicle sticks. I review colors & counting, as well as name recognition & spelling with this quick, easy & fun game. Students also trade with classmates to put their name puzzle together too. Later, I pass out extra sticks to those who don't have at least 6. I call out a shape or capital letter & they arrange the sticks to create whatever I'm asking for. Super-fun way to whole group assess!
