Krishna’s death is said to be the end of the Dwapar Yuga and the beginning of the Kali Yuga. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu believed that sinners in the Kali Yuga could absolve their sins by constantly chanting the name of Krishna.
Shiva is both destroyer or purifier and re-creator. The snakes around his neck symbolize power over evil and fertility. He wears a female earring on his left and and a males on his right which symbolizes sexual power and union.
Srimad Bhagavatam 1.6.24, the Lord tells Narada, "Intelligence engaged in My devotion cannot be thwarted at any time. Even at the time of creation (or repeated birth), as well as at the time of annihilation (death), your remembrance (of devotional service) will continue by My mercy."
